Service and Learning in Ghana 2026

Additional Information

Through the Dialogue of Civilizations to Ghana led by Dr. Vanessa Dianna Johnson, Northeastern University students have left an important imprint in the country. This has been done by its various service-learning endeavors that provide schools and healthcare facilities with over 5000 books, medical supplies, educational materials, clothes for youth, sporting equipment, hygiene kits, braillers, new and used computers (laptop and desktop), printers and more.

These donations have supported the establishment of a computer lab and libraries at rural primary schools allowing students to take crucial exams to enter middle school, enrich their learning experience, and much more. We hope to continue to foster this relationship and expand computer labs to other schools.

The hygiene kits will be used and donated to young children at several schools. During these visits, our students teach dental and hygiene lessons to establish a foundation for a healthier lifestyle and disease prevention.

In addition to donating items, we have also utilized funding to help with the cost of building supplies. For instance, on one of our trips, to a rural medical facility, our students helped build a shaded waiting area for patients.

Donations have been an important way that many have made contributions to purchase needed materials, equipment, and technology. We are again asking that people like you help fund our service-learning effort by donating to this site any amount that you can. We are hoping to achieve the amount of $5000 for purchasing computers for the Church of Christ Basic School, educational materials for the Special Needs School, braillers for the School of the Blind, clothing and toys for orphanages, and medical supplies for the rural clinics. Help us represent Northeastern University on our trip to Ghana this upcoming July 2023.
