Digitize Historic Northeastern News

Digitize Historic Northeastern News

Additional Information

The Northeastern News is an important part of understanding student history at Northeastern University. Since its inception in 1926, it has served the student population with grassroots reporting on current events, local entertainment, and the ever-important updates on NU sports. The paper became editorially and financially independent from the university in 2008, when it was renamed to The Huntington News. Northeastern University Archives and Special Collections (NUASC) is proud to steward the physical copies of the Northeastern News, but we hope to make it even more widely accessible to current news staff, alumni, and researchers who may not be able to visit the archives in person.

This gap in digitized coverage of the Northeastern News can be remedied by digitizing its microfilm. We are asking for an initial goal of $2400 for the most basic digitization of the items: organized and labeled by microfilm roll and made into searchable PDFs.

Our stretch goal of $15,750 would be more complex digitization, where each issue would be separated into its own file.
